It’s spring and that means many backyard fruit trees are bearing too much fruit for one household to consume.  Instead of letting the fruit (or vegetables) go to waste consider calling Food Forward, which distributes 100% of the produce to food banks.   This North Hollywood non-profit organization has instructions on its website about how to harvest the produce yourself or they will send a team of trained volunteers to your home to do the job.

In addition to harvesting and donating produce, Food Forward also has classes though the 4th Annual Foodsteader Tour— four half-day, hands-on workshops taught by experts and food artisans.  Learn the art of making bitters, candy, beer and butchery.  There is also an upcoming 12-week certificate course in canning with a curriculum that includes hands-on lessons in jams, jellies, pickles, bread, beer, liqueur, charcuterie, cheese and more.
