Sweet Lady Jane is coming to Encino toward the end of this year—right in time for the holidays. Considered one of the finest bakeshops in Los Angeles, it originated on Melrose more than 25 years ago and then expanded to Santa Monica. 

Many baked goods are found here: custom cakes, pies, cupcakes, cheesecakes, tarts and cookies. Sweet Lady Jane is known for beautiful designs as well as taste. I have a particular penchant for the coconut cake, princess cake and triple-berry shortcake—each of which have four layers of cake and three layers of filling.

Sweet Lady Jane is moving into the shopping center at Hayvenhurst and Ventura that once housed M. Fredric (but has had a few tenants since). They will also be serving breakfast, lunch, single desserts (of course), and coffee and tea. Sweet Lady Jane products are sold at Ralphs; however, it is not quite the same as going to the bakery/café for fresh and custom-made desserts.
