Salt & Straw Expands Ice Cream Empire to Studio City

Salt & Straw founders Kim Malek and chef/cousin Tyler deliver a third ice cream shop to LA, this time in Studio City.

The ice cream scene has never been hotter in Studio City. In the past year, McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams, Sweet Rose Creamery and Local Ice have all started scooping. Now Portland-based Salt & Straw, which already runs successful LA locations in Larchmont Village and Venice, will expand to Studio City by May 16.

According to Kim Malek, who co-founded Salt & Straw with chef/cousin Tyler, “One of the reasons we started Salt & Straw is because we love to create and support great neighborhood places, so we were immediately drawn to the energy of Ventura Boulevard and how tight-knit and supportive the community is here.”

Tyler will continue to churn creative, seasonal flavors to fill cups, cones and sundaes. Each month, Salt & Straw features a unique themed series. May’s Flower Series includes flavors like dill flower and fennel pollen, rosewater and apple bitters, and grand poppy sorbet with spring flowers.

June's theme focuses on fermentation. July brings “berries, berries, berries.” August explicitly centers on farmers market finds.
