Looking for a fun place to take the kids or relive your youth? Voodoo Doughnut is the kooky but compelling Portland doughnut shop from Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon that left Anthony Bourdain longing for more on No Reservations. They opened branches in Eugene, Denver and Austin and just launched a deluxe branch on Universal CityWalk to start March.

A voodoo pastor with top hat and cane ushers people past stanchions inside a pink pleasure palace. After all, “Good things come in pink boxes.” So do their doughnuts.

Inside, the line continues past a coffin altar that will soon be available for weddings, with Cat Daddy hoping to officiate the first service. Merchandise shelves give way to rotating towers displaying more than 60 types of doughnuts.

Signature Hollywood Cream sports maple glaze and SoCal sunglasses and contains Bavarian cream. Voodoo Doughnut classics include a voodoo doll doughnut with a pretzel stake piercing the chest of a figure that bleeds raspberry jelly. You’ll also find maple bacon bars lined with bacon strips; Mango Tango filled with mango jelly and topped with vanilla frosting and Tang; and Grape Ape, a supple raised doughnut with vanilla frosting, grape dust and lavender sprinkles. Voodoo also serves more pedestrian doughnuts like double chocolate, blueberry cake and cinnamon sugar.

A full Stumptown Coffee bar from a fellow Portland classic is also located inside. They operate a La Marzocco espresso machine and pour nitro cold brew. After all, is there a better pairing than coffee and doughnuts?
