Peach Pie: In Season, In the Neighborhood

Local pie shops take advantage of tasty seasonal fruit.

OMG, is this not the most beautiful peach pie ever? It’s a work of art. It should hang in the Louvre in Paris, maybe next to da Vinci’s The Last Supper—you know, in case somebody wants dessert.

Many thanks to Michael O’Donnell, manager of the Four ‘n 20 diner on Laurel Canyon, for letting The Sauce photograph this peach of a pie, available at many locations. But take note: In July, seasonal peach pie is all around us. Here are a few more options:

1. Aroma Coffee & Tea: The Sauce has been told that Aroma started serving peach pie on July 4. There was none available on a recent drop-in, just an astonishingly tall and delicious-looking apple number, but keep an eye out for the peach. 4360 Tujunga Ave., Studio City, 818-508-0677

2. simplethings: If you visit the simplethings website you will find a “pie chart” that tells you what pies are sold on what days, depending on season. Right now, peach pie is available Wednesday and Thursday only, in three sizes: Big Pie (call for prices), Simple Pie (serves one or two, $5.75) and the popular two-bite-sized Cutie Pie ($2.75). 4013 W. Riverside Dr., Burbank (and other locations), 818-562-9619

3. Additional peach pie options: Du Par’s and Marie Callender’s restaurants confirm that peach pie is in the house. NoHo’s Republic of Pie has one peach and blueberry blend, but they say that despite California’s drought-afflicted cherry crop the summer crowd is demanding cherry pie—and getting it.

But take a look at this Republic of Pie offering: the Triple Threat. No peaches, but apple, pumpkin and marionberry pies between layers of cheesecake, vanilla cake and frosting. The Sauce has no comment at this time.

Republic of Pie, 11118 Magnolia Blvd., North Hollywood, 818-308-7990
