There’s a new dog in town—hot dog, that is—and it is bringing a slew of creative sausages, burgers and brew along for the ride. Dog Haus, which originated in Pasadena in 2010, just opened its fourth location (and first franchise) at 6501 Topanga Blvd. in Canoga Park this past weekend.

The fast-casual concept of this new, 2,700-square-foot space is an order-at-the-counter place with seating at both communal tables and smaller tables. This is the first in what is hoped to become a chain of 50 franchises.

The menu selections feature all-beef, skinless hot dogs, sausages, burgers, grilled cheese and corndogs.  Choose from their signature creations or build your own with more than 40 toppings.

Some of the most popular sandwiches include: Sooo Cali Haus Dog (arugula, tomato, crispy onions, spicy basil aioli and avocado); Downtown Haus Dog (smoked bacon wrapped dog topped with caramelized onions, sautéed bell peppers, mayo, mustard and ketchup); Cowboy Haus Dog (white American cheese, smoked bacon, BBQ sauce and crispy onions); Fonz Haus Sausage (hot Italian sausage with pastrami and melted mozzarella); Das Brat Haus Sausage (bratwurst with caramelized onions, kraut, white American cheese and whole grain mustard aioli). One of the newest is something to behold: the Bad Mutha Clucka — a chicken-fontina sausage topped with sun-dried-tomato aioli, crispy onions, and fresh basil.

Like the hot dogs and sausages, burgers make a statement—from the trademarked The Freiburger®, with white American cheese, a fried egg, haus slaw, fries and mayo, to the Holy Aioli, with white American cheese, caramelized onions, smoked bacon and garlic aioli—there's some creative cooking going on.

There are eight craft drafts, including Hangar 24, Golden Road Brewing and Strand Brewing  by the pint, plus, canned beers like Fat Tire, Pabst Blue Ribbon and Modelo. Also available is a children’s menu, as well as combinations of fries, tater tots and sweets (Fosselman’s ice cream!) doghaus.com
