Another French-trained chef is hitting the BBQ circuit. Chef Johnny Zone (who was on the Bouchon opening team with Mike Kahikina, now chef de cuisine of Barrel & Ashes) has been invited by Chef Kahikina to give "Valley-ites" a preview of his upcoming Howlin’ Ray’s Hot Chicken food truck with a one-night-only pop-up dinner on May 4, where he will debut his "Nashville Hot Chicken" at Barrel & Ashes in Studio City. For the past four years Chef Zone helmed the kitchen at La Poubelle Bistro in Los Angeles—and no doubt he is a master at chicken, as Chef Curtis Stone (Maude) declared his coq au vin the top bird on Food Network's The Best Thing I Ever Ate.

For this pop-up, Chef Zone will cook his special chicken fare served with white bread, pickles and choice of one farmers market side for $12. The complete menu is below. The regular Barrel & Ashes menu will also be available. Reserve ahead online or call 818-623-8883. Space is limited. The Howlin' Ray's Hot Chicken food truck is set to officially roll out on the streets in June.
