What: It’s been in the works for nearly two years, but The Fat Dog finally opened in NoHo last week. It’s the sister location to The Fat Dog on Fairfax, which opened four years ago. Both locations are owned by Susann and Richard Mandeville and chef John Gladish (all pictured above).

The space: The former Avery Schreiber theater now inhabited by The Fat Dog is a distant memory, with a sleek, 2,800 square feet of interior space and a 1,000-square-foot patio. There are two bars: one with windows that opens to the street and a smaller bar at the end of the building that overlooks the patio. Keeping with the dog theme, there is custom printed dog breed chart wallpaper and the wood tables with a branded dog image. Seating includes booths and communal tables. There are also four TVs discreetly placed for those interested in watching a game.

The menu: Currently the soft opening menu is being served. Expect burgers, sandwiches, salads, mac ‘n’ cheese, Swedish meatballs, fish 'n' chips, Mary’s chicken, a steak with fries, and the fat (hot) dog, of course.

The brunch: $5 drinks, including mimosa, bloody beer and fat Mary. The food offerings include real comfort dishes such as fried egg sandwich, brioche bread pudding French toast, short rib hash and house-cured salmon pizza.

The drinks: 18 beers on tap, nine bottled beers, a handful of wines by bottle and glass, and cocktails by Matthew Biancaniello with cutesy dog-centric names that include: The Tootsie Roll Over, A Walk in the Park, Off The Leash, Tailwagger and Dog Bite. Plus there is a daily cocktail for just $7.

The deal: Happy hour Monday through Friday, 4 to 7 p.m., featuring select beers and cider for $3; wine, $4; well drinks, $5; as well as food items for $3 to $7.
