New: Tarzana’s Fishbone is a Family Affair

Take fresh fish home or let Fishbone cook it up Southern style.

Don’t even try to get a parking space in the cramped strip mall at the corner of Burbank and Reseda Boulevard, where casual Fishbone restaurant opened its doors in late February. Just park on the street, get yourself some fish and enjoy.

It may not look like much, but just taste the red snapper.

It’s a family business—so much so that the proprietors would rather not share their names and titles. Everybody’s special here. The most important question is: Bones or no bones? Fried or grilled? Order at the counter, where the fam is happy to offer recommendations depending on your personal de-boning skills.

Grilled salmon

You also can take home fresh fish, shrimp or oysters by the pound and cook it yourself, but I’m guessing these friendly folks can do it better. The Sauce and Sauce Spouse tried light-as-air fried red snapper and grilled salmon, both perfectly cooked and tasty. Other fish choices include tilapia, sand dabs and trout. Lunch prices (one side): $5.50 to $9. Dinners (two sides): $11 to $13.

No bones about it—this is fun fish. And you’ll feel really good about tipping because a family member invariably shouts out with joy: “We got a tip!” Here’s a tip from The Sauce—Fishbone deserves a try.

Expect a family welcome at Fishbone.
