LAURA TATE w/PIANIST JEFF PARIS @ Upstairs at Vitello’s Supper Club
March 28 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm$20 – $25
There is simply no one else like her. With a heart the size of Texas, a mesmerizing voice and a zest for living that is irresistible, Laura Tate inspires; through her music, her words and her deeds. Those of us who know her can attest to this fact. There is a spark behind those violet-blue eyes that seems to say, “I’m living my life on my own terms… with love and laughter and passion. Want to come along?” And, yes, we do… and with the current CD release of, “Let’s Just Be Real,” and her upcoming show here at Vitello’s Upstairs, we most certainly do.
Laura Tate is a Dallas-born singer that is drawing rave reviews for her fourth CD in five years, “Let’s Just Be Real.” With never-before-recorded tracks, soulful interpretations of classics, and an enviable back-up band of seasoned pros, “Let’s Just Be Real” has been gaining international airplay since its release. The album was recorded in Los Angeles, California with her fabulous band last spring. It has already garnered fantastic reviews from around the world. Bob Leggett, aka “LA Music Critic” (he presents the annual Los Angeles Music Critic Awards show), labeled it “one of the best releases of this year and a worthy addition to your musical collection.” The reviews in English, French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and other assorted languages are positive as well! Ah, music –the universal language.
Whether she is singing Broadway hits, ballads, pop, jazz, blues favorites or original compositions, Laura brings heart and soul to her performances and recordings. The versatile singer, actor, producer, and community advocate continues to mesmerize audiences in both intimate cafes and huge concert halls, reaching each listener with her smooth sultry torch singer voice and warm stage presence.
Known for her versatility, Tate sang a compilation of American standards from the ‘30s to the ‘50s in her first CD “Songs from My Suitcase”, and then went with a pop-country mix in her second CD“Blue Train.” The third album, “I Must Be Dreaming,” is a cross-genre collection of love songs and ballads in different moods: jazz, blues, and rock. Now with the new release “Let’s Just Be Real,” a combination of blues and jazz, she has the music critics swooning!
In the music world, Jeff is the real thing. He sings, plays guitar, mandolin, keyboards and so many other instruments that Grammy Award Winner Keb Mo, called him “our musical Swiss Army knife.” He is an award-winning composer whose work has been performed, toured or recorded by the likes of Ringo Starr, Bill Withers, Bonnie Raitt, Dan Fogelberg, Stanley Clarke, Frankie Valle, Dave Stewart (of the Eurythmics) and Keb Mo to name a few and, curiously, he was a heavy metal rock star in the ‘80s. As a songwriter, he has had songs recorded by Robert Cray, Sheena Easton, The Four Tops, Billy Preston, Sister Sledge, Tower of Power and many other artists. His music studio in North Hollywood is full of gold and platinum albums that recognize his diverse musical talents.
