Buff Buffalo Features Fried Chicken Near Universal City

Buff Buffalo is a creative fried chicken specialist near Universal City that serves signature sandwiches between Belgian waffles.

Buff Buffalo specializes in Buffalo-style fried chicken in many forms. This outpost across the 101 freeway from Universal City sports a flexing buffalo logo and shares the space with Xhea, a grill-focused Mediterranean concept from the same owners.

Buff Buffalo, the restaurant’s signature chicken “burger,” tops a fried breast with cheddar, spicy mayo, bacon and cole slaw on a choice of brioche bun … or even more unique: a waffle. Variations include the Texan with cheddar, BBQ sauce, bacon, an onion ring and slaw. For a truly brotastic experience, consider Brotein, a Buff Buffalo with two fried chicken breasts serving as the “bun.”

Most other interesting menu items center on chicken, including a Buff chicken biscuit with fried chicken, fried egg, cheddar and gravy. Fried chicken wings are available with or without bones and come tossed in sauces like spicy mango, lemon pepper and honey Sriracha.

The owners run almost 20 different restaurants around L.A., including All American BBQ in Northridge, Crab Avenue in Glendale and several kebab restaurants. The bow and truss structure with exposed wood rafters houses a neon Oak-Crest Market sign overhead and marble tables. Buff Buffalo occupies the south half of a communal dining area. Order at a counter that doubles as a coffee bar. Ask for a Hammerhead—the only drink with enough punch to stand toe-to-toe with with a weight-lifting buffalo.
